Firestick vs Smart TV for IPTV
Should you run IPTV natively on your Smart TV or add a Firestick? The real trade-offs — speed, app choice, updates and cost — and which wins for which household.

If you own a Smart TV, you face IPTV's most common either/or: use the TV's own apps, or plug in a Firestick? Both work. The right answer depends on four factors that matter unevenly per household.
Round 1: App choice — Firestick wins
Fire TV runs everything: IPTV Smarters, IBO Player Pro, TiviMate, XCIPTV, plus sideloading for anything else. Samsung and LG app stores carry a narrower selection that varies by region and year, and TV platforms occasionally delay or drop player apps. The stick means an extra remote (or HDMI-CEC configuration), an extra thing plugged in, an occasional "why is the telly on the wrong input" conversation. Genuinely worth weighing if the main user prizes simplicity.
Round 4: Longevity — Firestick wins
TV app platforms get software attention for a few years, then quietly don't. A stick is replaceable: when it slows down in five years, £50 replaces it — nobody replaces a TV because its apps got old. The stick decouples your streaming from your panel.
