LG's webOS is arguably the most pleasant TV software to live with, and it handles IPTV capably. Here's what LG owners should know before setting up — the good, the quirks, and the honest fallback.
Which LG TVs qualify
The line is webOS — LG's card-based interface introduced in 2014 and standard from roughly 2016 on. If pressing Home brings up the ribbon of app cards and an LG Content Store, you're in business. Older NetCast models can't run modern IPTV players; for those, a Firestick is the practical answer.
What the Content Store offers
Like Samsung's store, LG's catalogue is region-curated and shifts over time. The reliable searches are IPTV Smarters variants and IBO Player. Three practical notes:
- webOS versions differ a lot across model years — menus move, but the install-and-sign-in flow is identical everywhere.
- Some players use MAC-address registration instead of a login screen: the app displays a MAC, and you attach your playlist via the developer's website from a phone or laptop. Once done, the TV just works.
- Several TV players charge a small one-off developer activation fee after a trial period — separate from your Nexlivo subscription.

The magic remote advantage
Small thing, real advantage: LG's pointer-based magic remote makes IPTV apps nicer to drive than any conventional D-pad — on-screen keyboards stop being a punishment, and long channel lists scroll with a flick. It's the best native-TV text entry experience of any platform.
Getting the best from it
- Wire it up. LG TVs carry Ethernet ports; a cable to the router is the top stability upgrade for live sport (Wi-Fi vs Ethernet).
- Fully quit apps when troubleshooting — webOS keeps apps alive in the background, so "turn it off and on again" needs an actual app close (long-press back / the close X), not just the Home button.
